Upcoming events and plansEntering 2011, the Traprock Center for Peace and Justice continued our Roots of Peace programs in partnership with the Greenfield Community College Peace, Social Justice and Environmental Studies Program. On February 18 at noon, Tina Clarke spoke on Transition Towns at GCC. On April 8, Paul Chappell veteran and West Point graduate turned peace activist, spoke at noon; and on April 9, he led a daylong workshop on peace leadership, both events at GCC. The Roots of Peace Community Blog on the Traprock website carries essays by activists and also GCC student essays in response to speakers in our Roots of Peace series. All are welcome to contribute. We also collaborated with an art teacher at the Newton School in Greenfield who focused her K-3 classes this semester on the theme, Roots of Peace. Plans to exhibit the children’s art are in the works. In keeping with our mission, Traprock board members will participate in public events and continue to use local and national media (newspapers, websites, progressive on-line news sites, and radio) to reach as wide an audience as possible on issues of militarism, non-violent movements, peace education, social justice, and renewable energy. Watch for news on all of these activities on the website calendar and in our e-mails. Many more events are posted on the AFSC/Traprock/JobsWithJustice calendar. |
