Roots of Peace Speaker Series assignment

PSJ 101

Fall, 2010

The GCC Peace, Justice and Environmental Studies option and Traprock Center for Peace and Justice, are collaborating on a Roots of Peace Speaker Series. This fall, there will be two speakers: Paula Green of the Karuna Center and Michael True, professor Emeritus of Peace Studies at Assumption College in Worcester. Each speaker will be offering their ideas as to how to develop and nourish the roots of peace for our culture. Paula Green has done a great deal of healing work in Rwanda, Bosnia and other international conflict zones and Michael True has written numerous articles and books about the history and practice of nonviolence.

You will be required to attend one of these speakers and write a 2-3 page, single spaced paper about their talk.  Please address these questions:

·        What are the major points that the speaker makes about their area of expertise in peacebuilding?

·        What inspires you about their work? What didn’t make sense?

·        What questions do you have that were not addressed?

·        How do you see their work contributing to the roots of peace?

·        Please make reference to any readings from the text where you make connections between the speakers topics and the authors musings.

These papers will then be posted on the Traprock and GCC websites on the Community Voices sections, with your permission. This is a valuable way for the community to read and respond to your thoughts on these very important topics!

Papers are due the Wednsesday following the speaker, which is on a Friday.
